It was the 16th of January in New Orleans and the Mardi Gras spirit had been slowly creeping upon us. Out on Tulane Avenue was an intimate disco dance floor with Gris-Gris vibes, The Maidstone in Mid-City.
The fits were iconic as there was a cool breeze in the atmosphere. The disco babes in fur coats and Cory in his 4 inch platform shoes, letting the party know who the real boss was. Frenchy’s house of vintage had a selection of fashionable wear for anyone with exquisite style.

Katryna Ford had a variety of hand drawn and painted booklets that were flying off the shelf. One lucky serviteur walked away with her iconic red chainsaw sculpture with a battery powered light unit.

Needless to say, between the art, clothes, and the vibez, the firepit was a common congregational spot during the ceremony. (I truly like to believe it was because of the S'mores that were being offered)
Inside, where the spirits were being summoned and the drinks were being brewed with grey geese, all anyone could say was “Mmm Berrylicious Bad Girl”.

Dancing and chanting began as DJ Maximo tapped into his disco ancestors which were summoned by embracing the Gris-Gris Disco helmet of Wisdom. He soon paved the crosswalk into the afterlife of 70’s discotheques.

As the ritual began, many of our guests visited the voodoo doctor Mac from Ace Tattoo. He had set up his ceremonial grounds inside guest hotel room #2, and was offering a selection of spiritual Ink to embrace the Fever 54 energy. May this brave soul forever be in awe of the power of his Cowboy hat.

By this time in the evening, many of the devouts were famished from their spiritual disco journey and needed sustenance from big chief Rougarou. He provided the ceremony with his delectable Lobster Rolls to “keep the party going.”

As darkness was upon us, we were all led back onto the dance floor by Oungan Cousin Tony. He summoned the spirit of Tony Manero and brought disco energy into the ritual that carried us through the evening. Prayers recited by The Tramps, K.C & The Sunshine Band, and Gloria Gaynor lifted our hearts and spirits into the heavens.

Fever 54 was a magical ceremony that was shared by many loved ones. We are grateful for all of those who attended and contributed to the making of this ritual.
Shoutout to Lelia for winning the FREE YEAR SWIM PASS AT THE MAIDSTONE!!!
And shame on yall who RSVP’d to win but did not attend….may the Gris-Gris spirits have mercy on your souls. You may redeem yourselves by attending the next ceremony.
Yours truly,
Gris-Gris FM
